About this Project

The first draft of this site is only being released to researchers in Western Canada to gain their feedback on releasing a website like this out to more public audiences. It is important to understand that until each of the provincial groups sign-off, none of this data will be made public.

The intended goal is of this website is to have Post-registration Variety data from all of the Western Canadian provinces available in a standardized form so that farmers and other key audiences can use this data in making educated variety decisions.

Starting only with Canadian Western Red Spring wheat as a test, you will be able to see the potential value of bringing all of this information into one centralized location holds. If approved by the provinces there is great possibility to add other crops to this website as time goes on.

A steering committee with representatives from each of the western Canadian provinces was formed in May 2008, to shape and guide the development of this website. The steering committee representatives include:
  • Gayah Sieusahai - Agricultural Research and Extension Council of Alberta
  • Dee Ann Benard - Agricultural Research and Extension Council of Alberta
  • Ron DePauw - Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
  • Clair Langlois - B.C. Grain Producers Association
  • Martin Moore - B.C. Grain Producers Association (B.C. producer)
  • Keith Briggs - GrainTek
  • Bruce Brolley - Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives
  • Patti Cuthbert - Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives
  • Blaine Recksiedler - Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture
  • Wayne Bacon - Western Grains Research Foundation Board (Saskatchewan producer)
  • Amanda Soulodre - Western Grains Research Foundation

This project was initiated by ARECA (Agricultural Research and Extension Council of Alberta), as part of a grant funded by ACAAF / AAFC. Special grant funding and leadership had been provided by the WGRF(Western Grains Research Foundation).
